Qualifications

In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below: To qualify as a GS-7 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-05 level defined as reviewing and interpreting environmental principles, policy, and guidance related to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) programs. - OR 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement (Superior Academic Achievement Definition) degree in the academic discipline as described below - OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience equivalent to a GS-7 defined as performing ground water protection responsibilities; reviewing and interpreting environmental principles, policy, and guidance related to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). - OR master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below - OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:   -Skill in oral communication -Knowledge of applicable environmental statutes and regulations -Ability to interpret and evaluate permit applications and reports prepared by other engineers, scientists, and state agency personnel to solve issues. -Ability to develop new approaches for use by other agency stakeholders where specific agency guidance is lacking. -Skill in written communication. -Knowledge of applicable environmental statutes and regulations. -Skill in evaluating Ground Water Protection and UIC decisions involving new and/or complex technical methods. -Knowledge of scientific concepts pertaining to underground injection control wells.  Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.If you have part-time work experience, read this:  EPA Announcement Policies and Procedures.

Education

In addition to the eligibility requirements for the Recent Graduates program, this position has specific educational requirements in order to qualify as described below:

A bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in

1301 - General Physical Science Series:

You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

1315 - Hydrologist Series:

You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources.  The coursework must have included at least 6 semester hours in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours in physics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included the described coursework.

1350 - Geologist Series:

You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in geology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included the described coursework.
