You will serve as the ALTERNATE DEPUTY SUBSAFE PROGRAM DIRECTOR in the ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT, SUBSAFE PROGRAM OFFICE PSNS and IMF.
Duties
You will function as the point of contact with the production process as it relates to Fly-By-Wire and Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE) work.
You will ensure the shipyard and intermediate maintenance facility's (IMF) instructions, procedures, directives, processes, production and quality programs comply with Fly-By-Wire and SUBSAFE program requirements.
You will analyze and recommend quality improvements of complex shipyard programs that support critical submarine work.
You will review engineering instructions and procedures including ability to develop new approaches and modify standard practices, techniques, and/ or procedures.
You will mentor and support training of new SUBSAFE workforce and engage in program improvement initiatives.
You will organize, plan, and direct the shipyard and IMF Fly-By-Wire and SUBSAFE program and policy as it relates to submarine work.
You will plan, establish, implement, manage, and evaluate programs which encompass a wide variety of disciplines and functional organizations.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer planning, developing, and executing pre-sea trial certification and Fly-By-Wire and SUBSAFE functional audits for SSN and SSBN submarines.

Education
Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)
OR
Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
