About the Position: This announcement is for an Engineering Technician (CIVIL) GS-0802-08/09 position with the USACE Little Rock District, Operations Division. This position is located in Pine Bluff, AR.
This position can be filled at the GS-08 or GS-09 level, with promotion potential to the GS-09 full performance level.
Promotion will be at the discretion of management.
Duties
Coordinate surveying schedules and dredging layouts.
Prepare working plans or specifications for hydrographic surveying or dredging systems.
Coordinate work associated with routine surveying trips.
Collect, compile, verify and format survey data.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must possess valid U.S. Coast Guard or Corps of Engineers license to operate motorboats.
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) - This position is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination and an annual examination.

For the GS-8
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes the following duties: 1) compiling hydrographic survey data to appropriate formats for sharing; AND, 2) gathering hydrographic survey information to determine location of dredge sites.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service
(GS-07).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
For the GS-9
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes the following duties: 1) analyzing hydrographic survey information to determine the location and extent of dredge sites. AND, 2) assessing specifications for hydrographic surveying or dredging systems; AND, 3) generating surveys and drawings in accordance with applicable standards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: engineering, construction, industrial technology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
