You will serve as a RIGGER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC NORTHWEST.

Duties

You will assemble, cut, splice, and repair weight handling equipment and gear for operational readiness. You will make routing judgments using characteristics of the object to be moved and area through which it will be moved and positioned. You will collaborate with other rigging crew members to complete assignments as part of a large project. You will move heavy equipment or materials around a worksite using material handling equipment (e.g., fork lifts, loaders, cranes). You will observe safety rules to avoid workplace injuries when lifting, climbing, handling materials or equipment, setting scaffolds, or rigging.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including 1) Plan, layout and install rigging in industrial work operations; 2) Install standing/running rigging used to operate equipment, machinery; 3) Installing various fittings used in the assembly and repair of weight handling gear; 4) Use recognized hand or bell signals to direct crane operators during weight handling and/or lifting operations. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
