Initiates and maintains relationships with key reporters, publications, and events to strengthen 412th Test Wing's external reputation

Coordinates the planning and development of complex, high-level public affairs assignments in support of the Wing commander's programs and priorities. Researches, drafts, coordinates, produces, and reviews public affairs products such as news releases, talking points, fact sheets, news and feature articles, web-based content, briefings, speeches and scripts, newsletters, photographs, videos, pod casts, and other materials. Represents the office with a variety of installation and local governmental, media, community engagement, service, and educational organizations. Assists in the planning, organizing and carrying out the visual information program. Helps design, create, and assemble material for presentations, publications, and exhibits. Performs other public affairs duties as required.

  • Full/part-time employees occupying direct childcare positions are eligible for discounts IAW DAF AFSVC/CC Memo, 30 Sep 22; first child 100% / each additional child 25%. Other assigned CYP and FCC personnel are eligible for 25% discount.
  • 5+ years of experience in managing or executing a media relations program desired.
  • 5+ years of crisis communications planning and execution desired.
  • Familiarity with Depart of Defense structure and communicating within a national security environment or similar industry preferred.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Incumbent will be subject to recall to duty and having to perform other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • The incumbent must be available to support operations in and exercise or contingency situation. May be required to work irregular shifts or overtime.
  • May be required to work at locations other than 412 TW Public Affairs office for similar reasons.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management positions located here SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-02 or equivalent to the next lower grade GS-11 in the Federal Service. Specialized experiences is to carry out a wide range of public affairs assignments that include elements of media operations, social media, community engagement, command information, visual information, communication planning, contingency/crisis response, special event planning, environmental, security, policy review, and public affairs resource management. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1.Knowledge and understanding of media relations programs, community relations programs, command and public information programs, crisis communication and security and policy review functions of the Air Force, Air Force Material Command, the Air Force Flight Test Center, and Edwards Air Force Base. 2.Skills in gathering, evaluating, and interpreting data to identify potential problems, arrive at useful conclusions, and offer meaningful resolutions and recommendations. 3. Skills in working with people to maintain successful working relationships with groups interested in, or affected by, Public Affairs programs and policies. 4. Skills in organization with the ability to plan and apply programs, prioritize tasks of varying degrees of complexity, and complete them within established deadlines 5. Knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices of a public affairs program and written and oral communication principles, techniques, and analytical methods to perform a wide range of public affairs assignments to develop intercommunication between the agency and a variety of stakeholders. 6. Knowledge of the organization's operations and functions sufficient to communicate accurate information and modify standard methods and adapt approaches in the development of new information materials to meet organizational needs. 7. Knowledge of the concepts, principles, policies and practices of visual information activities, which may include illustrations, photography, presentations, television/motion picture production, and base cable access television. 8. Skill in working with people to establish and maintain effective working relationships with groups interested in or affected by public affairs programs or policies, and producing written information conveying complex information to publics with different levels of understanding. 9. Ability to plan and develop news stories, features, and quasi-technical articles.
