About the Position: Serves as manager of the Safety and Occupational Health program for Yakima Training Center, responsible for overall planning and development of a comprehensive safety and accident prevention program. Plans, establishes and interprets programs, policies and criteria covering high risk tactical and industrial operations; residential and nonresidential construction; comprehensive 24-hour safety program for military personnel, family members and civilian employees.

Duties

Investigate and analyze accidents involving personnel and material damage to determine circumstances, nature and extent of injury or damage. Conduct safety campaigns to maintain interest in accident prevention. Compile and analyzes accident statistics to develop reports, charts and tables. Conduct surveys and inspections of operations and facilities to ensure safe practices. Implement higher echelon directives in local safety and occupational health areas. Study safety problems to develop countermeasures to eliminate or minimize them.

• This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
