The position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration South Central VA Health Care Network (VISN 16), G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center (GVSMVAMC), in Patient Care Services, Jackson, MS. The Telemetry Monitor Technician serves as a member of the nursing team in the Telemetry Monitoring station located at ta central information monitor.

Duties

Major duties include: Performs continuous monitoring and analysis of cardiac rate, rhythm, and patterns of conduction on telemetry patients through the use of approved telemetry monitoring system. Detects abnormal or changing rate, rhythm, or pattern of conduction directly from oscilloscopic rhythm display, from computer triggered alarms, or from EKG records on computer memory. Monitor for non-invasive blood pressure and continuous pulse oximetry (SP02) alarm events. - Promptly validates/invalidates alarm conditions. Establishes and maintains morphologically suitable and noise free EKG signal. Detects need for lead changes by observing accuracy of computer diagnosis and noting clarity of EKG signal at console oscilloscope. Preserves an analyzed six second strip every 8 hours and as needed for rhythm changes. Labels rhythm strip with the patient's name, lead, PR QRS and QT intervals and rhythm interpretation. Monitor patients in lead Il or MCL unless specified Notifies appropriate personnel of minor/major/life threatening cardiac rhythm disturbance. Sets alarm limits per policy. Admits/discharges patient in computer arrhythmia system. Documents, on admission to telemetry, an analyzed baseline rhythm strip. Marks monitors with patient's location when they are temporarily taken off the monitor (i.e. medical procedures). Gives verbal reports to nursing staff regarding patient EKG rhythm. Runs a continuous strip on telemetry patients during emergency situation. Keeps an accurate log of all cardiac arrhythmias on the notification sheet. Prints summary every 4 hours on patients recorded on notification sheet. Ensures high quality information and visual display of patient's tracing. Promptly reports interference to RN. Reports inoperable equipment to the Nurse Manager/designee and Biomedical Engineering Department immediately. Assists RN with all phases of patient care tasks by performing or assisting with body and oral hygiene, skin care including hair, dressing, elimination and shaving based on established procedures, vital signs, weights, intake and output, bladder scans, draw labs and obtain blood cultures collect routine urine, stool and sputum specimens, changing linen on occupied and unoccupied bed, feeding patients, recording intake for calorie counts, assists with transfer and ambulation of patients, turns and properly positions patients, assisting with incentive spirometer, cough and deep breathing exercises, applying leads and connecting to ECG monitor, performing12 lead EKGs, post-mortem care, perform venipuncture and glucometer testing and reports to RN. Answers call lights and responds timely and appropriately. Maintains clean patient environment by cleaning dirty equipment, cleans environment. Serves as an escort by obtaining and delivering blood products from the blood bank, delivering specimens to lab after collection, assisting with transferring and transporting patients. Work Schedule: Rotating 12 hour day shifts including weekends and holidays, subject to change based on the needs of the facility. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/07/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR): Applicants who meet the Individual Occupational Requirement described below are fully qualified for the specified entry grade and must also meet the specialized experience requirements. To qualify you must possess the following: Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR), applicants must also meet the specialized experience that is relevant to this position. For the GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience, at the GS-05 grade level, that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes but not limited to: Experience with telemetry equipment, including transmitters, central monitoring station, running strips, validating and invalidating alarms, setting alarms, printers, troubleshooting. Experience with unit routines and basic organization of the unit and is able to identify the function and purpose of various supplies and equipment. Prioritize and work with minimal supervision. Experience with cleaning procedures, sterile technique, what constitutes contamination, and knowledge of corrective action to be taken. Communication skills to support effective communication with patients, families, nurses, medical staff and the interdisciplinary team. Phlebotomy experience is also desired, but not required for enter. Training for phlebotomy is available if needed. Physical Requirements: This position requires considerable walking, bending, standing, lifting, and handling of equipment and supplies. Requires dexterity in performing technical procedures. Proper body mechanics will be utilized at all times. The work involves long periods of moving about the unit. The work requires regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, lifting and repositioning patients or similar activities. The telemetry technician will be required to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 35 pounds frequently. The telemetry technician is expected to utilize provided lifting/assisting equipment for safety of the veteran and staff for all lifts/assists performed. The telemetry technician must be able to transport and transfer patients (e.g. stretcher to wheelchair, bed to stretcher, wheelchair to bed, etc.) safely. The telemetry technician will be required to handle equipment and must be knowledgeable of and able to use safe lifting techniques. The use of correct body mechanics is required. The telemetry technician should also have the ability to identify the potential for safety hazards.
