Salary: $30 - 35 per hour

About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain half way between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, Alabama just off interstate 20. Position may be filled by Temporary Promotion not to exceed 1 year. Temporary Promotion may be extended up to a maximum of 5 years. Temporary Promotion may be made Permanent without further competition.

Duties

Insure that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Sees to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in work crew busy. Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, replace, modify and/or fabricate electronic control panels, Numerical Controls (NC), and Computer Numerically Control (CNC) machinery and equipment. Insure that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Sees to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in work crew busy. Pass on to the workers instructions received from supervisor, and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led).

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Federal Wage System employees, WG/WL/WS etc, must satisfactorily complete the appropriate annual Depot Medical Examination.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an General Equipment Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. I have experience performing the work of a general equipment mechanic leader independently under limited supervision, as a general equipment mechanic leader. Performs the maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and/or modification of highly complex electronic controls and indicating systems used on industrial machinery/equipment. Work with electricians and plumbers on equipment with high voltages. I interpret blueprints, drawings and work orders. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Work involves walking, standing, bending and working in awkward positions. Frequently handles and lifts items weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally may lift an item weighing up to 60 pounds. Incumbent is required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crouch, kneel and climb for substantial periods of time. Working conditions: Work is performed inside shop areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated and heated and, occasional work in the field. The floor is of concrete and causes fatigue from long periods of standing and walking. Work is of a dirty greasy nature. There is exposure to noise, moving objects, and sharp edges of equipment with possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns and electrical shock. Wears such safety equipment as hard hats, gloves, safety shoes, safety glasses, etc.
