This is a temporary appointment. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status and will be for a period not-to-exceed 1039 hours in a service year.
Duties
Biological Science Technicians (Natural Resource Monitoring) assist with planning and directing field work for the collection, analysis, and documentation of data related to monitoring programs.
Works directly with Monitoring group and GIS specialists assembling and summarizing field data, ensuring that all monitoring activities are fully documented and reported.
Collects, analyzes/evaluating, interpreting, summarizing, documenting, storing and retrieving resource data.
Assists with the execution of the resource monitoring plans such as habitat assessment framework for Sage Grouse, multiple indicator monitoring for stream habitat, and assessment inventory and monitoring strategy
Provides resource monitoring information to staff for the preparation of the annual work plan. y 5
Assist in refining the offices resource monitoring program by summarizing data sets.

Qualifications

GS-06: one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service. OR Successful completion of 1 year of graduate education that is directly related to the position OR a combination of experience and education to meet total experience.
GS-07: one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service. OR, Successful completion of 1 year of graduate education that is directly related to the position OR a combination of experience and education to meet total experience.
Examples of specialized experience may include tasks such as collecting field data in support of monitoring programs; assisting in implementation of a resource monitoring program that evaluates the effectiveness of land management actions; documenting field observations, navigating outside through various land types to accomplish duties and working independently or as a team to collect data.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands/Work Environments: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking/hiking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated that may also be steep, wet and muddy. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to perform the work of the position, this includes tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods away from a vehicle. Work while in the office is performed in adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated area. Fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions and injuries and discomforts from pests and animals.
Education

Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5
only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-6 and 7.
