This position is located in the Nursing Department at the Indian Health Service (IHS), Tohatchi Health Center in Tohatchi, New Mexico. The primary purpose will be to evaluate the Nursing needs of patients, developing a plan of Nursing care, initiates patient care and provides or directs the provision of comprehensive Nursing care.
Duties

Provides guidance, leadership and direction to employees, other Nurses, and health care providers including temporary personnel.
Ensures that the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team's strategic, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services.
Coach the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem solving methods and techniques, provided advice on work methods, practices and procedures, and assist the team and/or individual members in identifying the parameters of a viable solution.
Assesses the patient and develops a plan of care for individual patients by interviewing the patient and family members, reviewing the patient's health record, determines and evaluating the kind of physical and health care needed.
Observes and assesses the patient's clinical condition- collects and interprets data from the patient's history and physical assessment. Based on interpretation of data, decides appropriate Nursing action to be taken.
Coordinates available resources to provide patient and family with social, age specific, emotional, educational, cultural, spiritual, and physician support.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-10 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
Basic Requirements for the GS-10 (or equivalent) Grade Level In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; or
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree or master's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-10: Your resume must demonstrate at least I have 1 year of specialized experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and procedures required to provide nursing care to high risk/complicated patients.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
