A Housekeeping Aid Leader provides first level leadership and guidance to entry level Housekeeping Aids in accomplishing the cleaning of administrative, patient, and public areas.

Duties

Relays the instructions received from supervisors and get work started. Works along with other employees and sets pace, demonstrating proper work methods. Obtains needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work shift. Maintains current knowledge and answers questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Checks work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. Assures the safety and housekeeping rules are followed. Reports to supervisors on status and progress of work, and causes of work delays. Incumbent must be able to operate equipment such as battery operated scrubbers and vacuum machines, industrial type polishing machines, vacuum cleaners and other equipment normally used in cleaning functions. Must understand and be able to carry out floor finishing procedures, being familiar with the various type of supplies, equipment and disinfectants required for each individual task. Responsible for the issuance of supplies such as towels, toilet tissue, soap etc. Responsible to see that all equipment is maintained in the proper manner including daily or as needed cleaning; reporting and malfunction to the area supervisor. Responsible for the daily inspection of assigned area to see that assignments have been properly completed. Responsible to see that all supplies and equipment are available at the start of each tour. Incumbent may be required to perform other duties such and functions normally found in Environmental Management Service. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 7am - 330pm, 300 pm - 1130 pm, 11pm - 730 am days of work could include weekends and holidays. (subject to change based on agency needs) Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid (Leader)/PD05324S Critical Skills Incentive of 20%: This occupation is being considered for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive (CSI). Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI. The amount of lump sum CSI is determined based on appointment date and may be pro-rated as determined by the end date of the CSI. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period and failure to complete the obligated service period may result in a debt for the unearned portion of the CSI.

Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent must be physically able to remain engaged in manual work requiring muscular effort the entire 8 hours of each shift. Work consists of all types of cleaning procedures and operation of various type of housekeeping equipment. Also involved in transport of soiled waste and regulated medical waste carts. Work is normally indoors in air conditioned/heated areas; however, transport of waste and medical waste may required short term exposure to the elements at the loading dock area. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided when needed. Incumbent, on occasions, may work from ladders in such functions as cleaning lights, washing walls, dusting, and window washing.
