Duties

Administer operations that involve onsite decisions and judgements. Draft surveys on various types of information. Patrol and inspect facilities. Investigate and report all trespasses/damage to government property. Work with Public Affairs and Community Organizations to increase park or recreation site utilization. Assist with training new and junior graded co-workers.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Qualifications

To qualify for GS-05: You must possess one-year specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-04) to be creditable; Specialized Experience: Include, but not limited to work somewhat independently in initiating, developing, or modifying work methods, Knowledge to respond and effectively deal with emergency situations, knowledge of BLM programs. -OR- 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with 24 semester hours of related course work; -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. To qualify for GS-06: You must possess one-year specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-05) to be creditable; Specialized Experience: Include, but not limited to work independently in initiating, developing, or modifying work methods, Knowledge of computer systems and software packages, Operate power tools required to perform maintenance. -OR- 1 full academic year of graduate education related to the occupation; -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. To qualify for GS-07: You must possess one-year specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-06) to be creditable; Specialized Experience: Include, but not limited to work independently; Rapidly shifting from one type of work to another on a continuing basis, administer operations, such as day-to-day operation of a recreation site, which requires independence in making decisions and judgments, Knowledge of agency policies, objectives, and operating methods as they relate to the total activities of the park. -OR- 1 full academic year of graduate education related to the occupation; -OR- Superior academic achievement; -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Superior Academic Achievement (See OPM's General Policies, Application of Qualification Standards Section 4.f.) S.A.A. must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles. Work Environment: Office work is performed in a setting that is adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated. When doing fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests or animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules.

In addition to the experience requirements described in the Qualifications section of this announcement, you must meet the Individual Occupation Requirements of this position as follows:

Education

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled.

Experience

General Experience (for positions at GS-4 and below): Experience in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work that provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of laws, rules, or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public. Experience in substantive and relevant secretarial, clerical, or trades and crafts work is also qualifying if pertinent to the position to be filled. Experience of a routine nature, such as typing, filing, maintaining records, or other nonspecialized tasks is not qualifying.

Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-3 and above): Experience that demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Park guide or tour leader.
  • Law enforcement or investigative work.
  • Archeological or historical preservation research work.
  • Forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area.
  • Management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations.
