The incumbent serves as Journeyman Electronic Mechanic within the Facilities Management Service/Engineering Branch at the Orlando VA Medical Center. The incumbent will be responsible for the day to day maintenance and operations of all Non-medical electronic systems throughout the Orlando VAMC Main Campus, off site business offices, and Outpatient Clinics. VA employees may be required to work irregular tours of duty, including evenings and weekends in order to conduct the VA's mission.

Duties

Responsible for maintenance, repair, modification, calibration, and installation of all non-medical electronic systems and components as a delegated responsibility of the Maintenance & Operations Section. Analyze all reported malfunctions and problems and must determine the scope, extent and severity after verification. Independently plan scheduled maintenance to ensure equipment is operating properly, calibrated properly, and in compliance with all applicable codes and standards. Performs incoming and recurring electrical safety inspections of non-medical equipment, and may assist in the development of new forms or procedures for electrical safety. Responsible to ensure a variety of safety and environmental regulations are in compliance by reviewing requirements with safety and GEMS office personnel and M&O General Foreman. Make frequent inspections of facilities, shops and equipment to ensure all meet CEOSH, Life Safety, Join Commission and OSHA compliance regulations. Required to support other Engineering Personnel as needed on an interim basis. Modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex electronics equipment and a complete operational system(s) consisting of numerous complex integral components which require knowledge of a wide range of electronics principles and practices. Advises equipment user and/or the supervisor on the technical problems of installation, repair and modification of non-medical electronic equipment. Recommends modification and/or interface designs as required for approval by the Section Chief or higher authorized officials. Recommends, develops, and implements redesign, reconfiguration, or modification of operating procedures to reduce breakdowns, eliminate hazards, or enhance accuracy and reliability. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The employee frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 40 pounds. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places to include above drop ceilings, may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. The employee typically works in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes in high or restricted places, under conditions of heat and cold and outside in inclement weather. The employee is exposed to the possibility of electric shock, burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder; and cuts and bruises.
