This position is located within Environmental Management Services (EMS) of the Sheridan VA HealthCare System, Sheridan, Wyoming. The Housekeeping Supervisor oversees the sanitation, infectious control operations of twenty-eight Housekeeping Aides and two Work Leaders seven days a week, including holidays.

Duties

Duties may include (but are not limited to): Serves as the technical and administrative supervisor over staff in assigned work areas. Plans, coordinates, and directs a variety of related work operations or functions with minimum oversight. Provides training for subordinate staff on technical matters and ensures subordinate staff meets all predetermined training requirements Initiates oral and written counseling to members of his/her team on matters of performance and conduct. Initiates actions for awards and performance recognition. Monitor's work of subordinate staff and performs quality assurance inspections; provides documentation of these inspections to service leadership. Maintains proficiency in all matters to include equipment utilization, supply use, aseptic technique, hospital infection control, waste management, linen service, and workplace safety. Plans, schedules, and organizes work assignments for subordinate staff. Establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors. Coordinates work with other supervisors and staff from other service lines for special projects management. Provides information and advice to higher-level management on such matters as ability to accomplish work assignments, budget estimates, changes in process techniques and standards, and supplies/materials requirements. Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinates, sets performance standards, and makes formal appraisals of their work performance. Give advice, counsel, and instructions to subordinate staff on both work and administrative matters. Responsible for limited pest control services to include removing unwanted animals from inside the VA. Must conform with to standards from CDC and JAHCO. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The physical demands of the position require some heavy lifting (equipment and materials), movement of furniture are required along with the stamina to perform physical labor. Continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting and arduous physical effort is required in the performance of the manual tasks described, such as washing walls above five feet and operating powered equipment over extended periods of time. Incumbent may routinely move and/or lift objects in excess of fifty (50) pounds and push linen carts in excess of 400 pounds. He/she will be required climb stepper ladders. Equipment utilized to accomplish duties and tasks require special care while operating to avoid serious injury. Incumbent working conditions such as ventilation and environment are satisfactory. His/her primary duties are normally accomplished indoors in a well-lighted and climate-controlled atmosphere (with some exposure to the outside). He/she may occasionally encounter temperature extremes, dirty, dusty, drafty, and noisy working conditions. Incumbent is exposed to communicable pathogens, skin irritations, mechanical and/or electrical hazards. When performing cleaning tasks, moderated effort is expended. Must have a thorough knowledge of specialized cleaning and sanitation techniques, materials, and equipment to accomplish the duties assigned this position. While performing snow removal, will be exposed to the cold and wind outdoors for prolonged periods of time.
