This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serves as an electronics mechanic responsible for the installation, overhaul, maintenance, repair and inspection of air traffic control communications and navigation aid systems and ancillary equipment.
Duties
Responsible for the installation, overhaul, maintenance, repair and inspection of air traffic control communications and navigation aid systems.
Perform on-site maintenance and independent certification of one complex system and various sub-systems of electronic air traffic control and communications equipment used in air traffic and ground traffic control of arriving and departing aircraft.
Diagnose causes of equipment malfunction through application of advanced electronic theory, system analysis, and use of a variety of test equipment, schematic and wiring diagrams.
Perform systems modifications as prescribed and furnished by FAA and Dept. of the Army.
Design, draw diagrams/schematics for, fabricate and install electronics sub-systems of other components as required to satisfy special operational and technical requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must have or be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- Must be able to maintain Air Traffic Control Equipment with CM300 radios.
- This position has been designated as a Mission Essential position.
- Must be able to perform travel for business up to 25% of the time.
- This position requires passing a pre-employment physical and annually thereafter.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying a variety of analytical and diagnostic techniques to assess performance of air traffic control communications and navigational systems and diagnose cause of equipment malfunctions; and performing preventive maintenance of Air Traffic Control and Navigational Aid systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).
