About the Position: This position is located at 21ST MDG Peterson AFB for Clinical Laboratory Colorado Springs, CO. Incumbent will perform the duties of Clinical Laboratory Technician under the general supervision of a Hospital Laboratory Supervisory Medical Technologist. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Perform moderately difficult and complex laboratory examinations and procedures. Receive laboratory requests along with specimens and select tests and procedures required to identify microorganisms and parasites. Perform a wide variety of laboratory testing, procedures and examinations in one or each of the laboratory sections. Perform preparatory work based on specialized test or procedure being performed such as collecting appropriate specimens. Perform phlebotomy on individuals as directed by laboratory management staff. Perform linearity studies and proficiency testing for CAP accreditation standards. Perform quality control testing, calibrations, verifications and evaluations to verify that diagnostic analyzers are functioning within established parameters.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• Approved MEDCOM Selective Placement Factor - Must have and maintain Medical Laboratory Technician certification.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
• Incumbent will have to pass a pre-employment physical to meet Physical Efforts requirements. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
• This position requires the ability to lift 40 lbs.
• This is an inclement weather position. The incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
• This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program.
• This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require contact with children.
• This position requires occasional TDY - 5%.
• Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing complex testing in a clinical laboratory setting; maintaining and/or troubleshooting equipment; and conducting quality control procedures. The OPM Qualification Standard provides the following examples: a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. AND Certificate: This position has a selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment: This position requires a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Certification. Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) is required.
