The primary purpose of this position is to: Serves as a technical specialist providing remote/direct monitoring and repair of assigned mission equipment and network suites, monitoring and guiding scientific field maintenance operations.

Duties
1. Provides direction, control, remote diagnosis, repair, and monitoring of global maintenance actions for data acquisition subsystems, power subsystems and communications subsystems for seismic, hydroacoustic, infrasonic, satellite, and materials collection suites at over 110 remote worldwide locations.
2. Provides technical equipment advice, and assistance to senior management on policies, procedures, and capabilities applicable to automated geophysical and materials data collection and monitoring systems based on field experience and/or analysis and evaluation of component failure rates.
3. Responds to equipment status reports or maintenance assistance requests from field locations outlining maintenance requirements and assists to resolve complex or unusual technical problems.
4. Represents the flight, squadron, Center, and, in some circumstances, the US Government during system acceptance; operational testing of prototypes, production systems or modification kits; and maintenance capability evaluations of newly installed equipment/systems.

Qualifications
This is a GG-11 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-11 duties for the "Technician" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-11 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the 11 grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions.
INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above):
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include work in the fields of astronomy, physics, geophysics, chemistry, hydrology, health physics, engineering, electronics, geology, oceanography, and metallurgy.
Experience as a laboratory mechanic or in a trade or craft may be credited as general or specialized experience when the work was performed in close association with physical scientists or other technical personnel and provided intensive knowledge of appropriate scientific principles, methods, techniques, and precedents.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include: Knowledge of geophysical and ground-based collection systems' operations and maintenance to include seismic, infrasound, hydroacoustic, particulate debris and whole air collection and analysis. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Extensive knowledge and understanding of specialized geophysical and ground-based collection systems operations and maintenance to include particulate debris and whole air collection and analysis, and their unique operating environments. Experience solving complex and/or unusual technical problems associated with these data collection platforms and associated science and technologies.
2. Knowledge of logistics management, as well as maintenance processes, concepts, theories, practices, and policies in order to ensure support issues are properly considered during the development of geophysical and materials collection systems maintenance support concepts.
3. Knowledge of long-haul communications systems, data transmission protocols and associated skills to accomplish failure identification, tracking, escalation, reporting and repair.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, to provide briefings, reports, technical advice and recommendations to others; as well as establish effective working relationships.
5. Ability to use web-based, interactive tools and applications to collect, organize, update and present technical data. Experience working with foreign nationals in the technical environment is a desirable skill.
6. Knowledge of security procedures to successfully conduct operations and maintain control of classified material.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS PERTAINING TO THIS POSITION:
Position is designated special-sensitive and requires eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP) to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. A non-disclosure agreement must be signed.
This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. IAW, DoDI 3020.42, Defense Continuity Plan Development.
This position is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. The duties of this position meets all requirements as a category 4 designation and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively. This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and CAN NOT become a member of the Ready Reserve. (IAW: DoDI 1200.07, Screening the Ready Reserve).
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
