Employees will serve as a Claims Assistants (Office Automation) within the Beneficiary Travel Section at the Veterans Tennessee Healthcare System in Nashville, TN and Murfreesboro, TN.

Duties
***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION***
Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following:
Prepares vouchers for beneficiaries claiming reimbursement of travel expenses based on rates, mileage, and additional allowances (e.g., ferry, bridge, toll costs), and processes claims for payment/reimbursement, including for special transportation arrangements (e.g., Ambulance Travel; Hired Vehicles; etc.).
Prepares and mails various correspondence, including denial letters to patients who are not eligible to receive beneficiary travel.
Monitors accounts and estimated obligations, expenditures, and funds used.
Determines patient eligibility of travel entitlement and recommends alternate resources, when necessary.
Maintains fund control point accounts based on sound accounting techniques for authorization, obligations and liquidation of accounts, including certification of invoices for payment.
Makes contact with nursing homes and medical centers/hospitals and patient residences relative to travel arrangements.
Performs other duties as necessary.
Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday-Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Specialized experience includes determining patient beneficiary travel eligibility, preparing invoices, processing claims for payment reimbursement; making patient travel arrangements; and using computer software programs and databases to enter patient data, prepare correspondence/letters, and reports.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of 2 years) and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
AND
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
