This position is located in External Affairs Directorate, Office of Access and Information Services, Language Services Section.
As a Language Specialist (Training), you will identify, develop, and implement training opportunities in the Language Services Section.
Duties
Formulates or revises training curricula and materials relating to translation, interpretation, and transcription.
Serves as a subject matter expert and technical authority on translation, interpretation, and transcription protocols and
best practices
Provides coordination and delivery of the local training program and works with management to identify individual and
broad-based training needs.
Manages and directs training of all language specialists and administrative staff
Facilitates the professional development of all employees by identifying training events and opportunities and
consulting with employees and their supervisors regarding individual development plans.
Qualifications
The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 11/08/2023.
Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 11/08/2023.
Basic Requirements: All applicants must meet the following basic requirements: (Must be supported in Transcripts from an accredited institution, Resume and/or Applicable Certificate)
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- the appropriate foreign language from an English-speaking college or university, English from a college or university in the other country, or translating or interpreting where English and the foreign language were prerequisites OR
Experience in translating, interpreting, or other work requiring the use of English and the other language; or a combination of work (that required English and the other language) and training at the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Service Institute, or comparable training.
The following are examples of work in the required language that may have provided the required abilities: translator; interpreter; librarian or information specialist required to make abstracts, screen, index, and scan material; intelligence; writer or editor; international organizational work, such as the Peace Corps, World Bank, United Nations, business, or other organizations; or professor, teacher, or instructor work at the high school or college level that required use of the foreign language.
GS-13: You qualify at the GS-13 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
Developing Standard Operating Procedures and communication materials.
Providing recommendations on training requirements to improve team performance.
Delivering training and/or stakeholder presentations in various settings.
Assessing training needs and identifying appropriate programs or strategies.
Reviewing translated documents into and from the source language to ensure technical and grammatical accuracy.
