Duties

Supervise up to 5 positions including planning, scheduling and assigning work; setting goals; approving leave requests; identifying and providing employee and volunteer orientation and training.
Ensure equal opportunity for all employees and volunteers supervised; responsible for on-the-job safety; develop effective working relationships and coordinate work efforts with personnel of other organization units.
Serve as a front-line representative of Glacier National Park. Provide visitors with backcountry recreational opportunities, status of trails, and campground availability. Process and issue Backcountry permits.
Provide public orientation of backcountry regulations, current park events resource management projects and management policies.
Collect appropriate backcountry camping and reservation fees using an electric cash register, computer or point of sales system. Complete shift reports, safeguards funds collected, and prepares remittance reports and bank deposits.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/13/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-08 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Leading or supervising others collecting fees and/or issuing permits in a recreation setting and advising the public on recreation travel; leading or supervising others operating a backcountry reservation and permitting system; supervising employees in a recreation setting(Including outdoor stores); leading or supervising others working in the backcountry and advising the public on backcountry travel; leading or supervising others operating an Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) station and performing inspections; or similar work leading or supervising subordinate employees collecting fees and instructing on backcountry travel. You must include hours per week worked.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
