About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Serve as the installation representative for Victim Witness Assistance Program and has responsibility of maintaining liaison with The Judge Advocate General, Criminal Law Division components of the Department of the Army, other federal agencies. Measure program effectiveness and efficiency through analysis of quarterly and annual reports. Establish and maintain liaison with counterparts at other Army installations and federal offices. Research, analyze, and evaluate information and case files for attorneys on all criminal law subjects and victim-witness issues. Ensure proper processing of completed legal issues and relevant case law.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience for GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Working directly with law enforcement, corrections, and other applicable agencies to assist installation personnel and attorneys with legal actions; (2) Providing the victim support during trial preparation interviews; and/or (3) Preparing and organizing trial exhibits as required, such as statistical charts and photographic exhibits. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position such as Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice or Masters of Law, etc. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Specialized Experience for GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Analyzing and evaluating case files against case litigation worthiness standards; (2) Annotating and correcting case file deficiencies, such as missing documents and inconsistent material before sending the case to the trial attorneys; (3) Coordinating with investigators conducting review of cases with victims of crimes; and/or (4) Managing and operating an automated travel system such as Defense Travel System (DTS) to assist witnesses with booking travel and lodging, as well as facilitating budgetary disbursements to compensate witnesses for travel expenses. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position such as Paralegal Studies, General Law, or Legal Studies, etc. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages
