You will serve as a UTILITY SYSTEMS REPAIRER OPERATOR LEADER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH.
Duties
You will determine when to raise or lower fires in boilers, use pressure reducing valves, or start and stop water pumps to maintain operational performance.
You will operate equipment (e.g., single and multiple fuel power boilers, related auxiliary equipment) in a steam or high temperature water boiler plant.
You will determine the amount of chemical to be fed into boilers or chillers for treatment of water or control corrosion and chemical concentrations.
You will conduct on-the-job training for utility system installation, repair, or maintenance to junior level worker or trainees.
You will observe a flow meter and charts to determine the amount of steam being produced to verify it is meeting demands.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Incumbent may be required to obtain certification as a Maryland Visible Emissions Evaluator if testing is provided.
- Incumbent may be required to attend NOx/Combustion Optimization training if provided.
- The incumbent must be able to become CPR certified.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Qualifications

Incumbent is required to possess or obtain within one year, a valid Maryland First Class Stationary Engineer license, National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE) First Class Power Engineer license, or American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE) First Class Power Operating Engineer license. Incumbent must keep their license current to hold this position. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Operating large high pressure,high temperature, duel fuel fired steam electric generating plants and auxiliary equipment including compressed air, emergency diesel generators, potable and waste water plants, and electric distribution systems/equipment; 2) Maintaining and reviewing operational logs and data; and 3) Adhering to required safety and housekeeping standards.
