About the position: This position will be assigned to the Auto Hobby Shop on Ellsworth AFB. Must be able to frequently lift, and carry objects weighing up to 40lbs, and occasionally objects weighing over 50lbs. This is a flexible work schedule with no minimum guaranteed hours; however, you may work up to 40 hours.

Duties

Troubleshoots defects, diagnoses malfunction, and determines type and extent of repairs necessary. Utilizes test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, compression gauges, exhaust electrical test stands, electrical testers, special feeler and dial gauges, exhaust analyzers, and engines and chassis dynamo-meters. Provides instruction to patrons, as requested or as deemed appropriate, and, on a regular basis, performs such duties as: troubleshooting; rebuilding and repairing automotive engines, major assemblies, and components. Hooks up fuel, oil hydraulic, and electrical systems to repaired units and makes adjustments to assure proper operation of units. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must have experience in the maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline powered engines which included the full range of repairing, disassembling, troubleshooting and overhauling of these engines, and provide all of the following: Knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of complex major systems and assemblies to troubleshoot and repair a variety of systems or to rebuild one or more systems; knowledge to test and troubleshoot components and systems to locate equipment defects: ability to interpret and apply manufacturer's repair manuals and technical specifications, schematics and engineering drawings, diagnostic codes, computer printouts and safety manuals. Must be able to frequently lift, and carry objects weighing up to 40lbs, and occasionally objects weighing over 50lbs.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
