About the Position: Exercising the skill and knowledge of an experienced rotary wing pilot or flight simulator instructor, through the use of highly sophisticated simulator devices and formal classroom instruction. Incumbent performs the duties of Flight Simulator Training Instructor and/or Instrument Examiner (simulator only) utilizing motion and non-motion based Flight Simulators such as, UH-60
Duties
Perform the duties of Training Instructor (Helicopter Flight) utilizing motion and non-motion based UH-60 IP/FE Trainer Flight Simulators.
Utilizing approved evaluation guidelines, will review records to verify individuals evaluated meet all prerequisites and ensure all required equipment is available for flight.
Conduct crew briefings on mission, weather, flight route, performance data, flight control transfer, and crew duties, to include emergency duties.
Direct the operations of the Flight Simulators, interfacing with contract logistic support personnel to ensure the serviceability and availability of the simulator for training.
Responsible for maintaining pilot skills necessary to demonstrate flight techniques and procedures to aviators during training and to successfully complete evaluations administered by standardization personnel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or irregular duty hours to accomplish mission objectives.
- Validates professional qualifications annually through an intense instrument flight evaluation, standardization flight evaluation, written and oral evaluation conducted by an army standardization instructor pilot.
- During the preceding 12 months prior to employment, the incumbent must have either:
- a. served as a ground instructor giving pilot, flight instructor, or ground instructor training that includes instrument instruction, OR
- b. served as a flight instructor giving pilot, flight instructor, or ground instructor ground or flight training that includes instrument instruction; OR
- c. completed an approved flight instructor refresher course and received a graduation certificate for that course; OR
- d. received an endorsement from an authorized ground or flight instructor certifying demonstrated knowledge in instrument instruction.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
GS-12 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes designing, developing, and/or updating aircraft training courses of instruction for helicopters, such as the UH-60 IP/FE aircraft, for classroom and flight simulation environment; experience presenting flight instruction and pilot examination to students as it relates to training on the aircraft systems, training maneuvers, and/or procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
