The Allergy Telehealth Navigator is an integral member of the VISN 8 Tele-Allergy Hub team. The incumbent performs complex assignments to support the daily operations of this interfacility virtual healthcare practice and mitigates virtual care access barriers that exist at the patient, provider, and system level.

Duties

Schedules telehealth appointments efficiently. Schedules or reschedules new consults in provider-side and patient-side grids. Schedules or reschedules RTC orders in provider-side and patient-side grids. Schedules or reschedules laboratory RTC appointments in patient-side grid. Ensures VVC patients are provided a link to their virtual appointment through VCM or other approved telehealth platform. Orients patient to the virtual care process and answers questions while providing instruction and assistance. Provides education and/or enrollment of patients in the My HealtheVet program. Ensures labs/test/imaging ordered by MD/APRN are completed prior to patient's appointment. Calls patients prior to appointment to confirm appointment and answer any patient questions regarding telehealth process. Ensures VCM link was received by patient. Confirms email, phone number, and address are correctly stated in the patient's electronic medical record. Available on-demand during clinic hours to contact patient and troubleshoot connectivity issues in real-time. Verifies that all patient encounters are complete prior to the end of the day and notifies the medical professional responsible when encounter is not complete as appropriate (i.e., ensure there are no open encounters). Timely cancels consults that have failed mandated scheduling efforts per VA policy. Works with Bio Med, OIT, and Help Desk to assure equipment is properly installed and configured, as appropriate. Also contacts National Telehealth Help Desk for troubleshooting assistance and work order (ticket) submissions. Develops reporting procedures, sampling techniques, and measurements at various points in the telehealth processes to identify/analyze inherent weaknesses in work and procedures and reduce barriers to successful video visit use. Coordinates clinic set up and monitoring of workload capture and issues for assigned patient and provider clinics including telehealth resource-based scheduling. Submits LEAF requests for clinic grid changes, as appropriate. Work Schedule: Varies Telework: Ad Hoc Virtual: This is not a virtual position.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. or (2) Education. One year above high school; or (3) Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. C. English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. II. GRADE QUALIFICATIONS: May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).A. A. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 Medical Support Assistant level in Federal Service is required. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with active professional laboratory practice. Examples of specialized experience are: Assisting with clinic access contingency plans by adjusting appointment times, location, or dates as well as shift patients to other healthcare providers as conflict with staffing and/or coverage occurs; updating demographic information, scheduling appointments, collection insurance information, data entry, administratively managing consultation requests, and electronic wait list, and notifying the patient of his/her appointment; developing and maintaining specific reports used by the patient care team to monitor, track and trend care delivery as well as participating and leading quality improvement efforts focused on cost, access, quality and customer satisfaction; etc... May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Qualification Standards: VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G45, dated June 7, 2012. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary in nature, requires non-routine walking, bending, and lifting of objects of 15-25 lbs.
