The Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist serves as the Program Coordinator who facilitates and programming related to general mental health and the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP). BHIP is an interdisciplinary team of mental health professionals that work together with the Veteran to provide recovery-oriented, evidence-based, mental health care.

Duties

Program Coordination: a) The incumbent is responsible for coordinating interdisciplinary staffing, work assignments, budget, treatment services and access to the Mental Health Clinic. b) The incumbent is responsible for assigning, directing and reviewing the work of staff in the Mental Health Clinic. c) The incumbent serves as a leader for the Mental Health Clinic. d) The incumbent will evaluate employees work performance in the Mental Health Clinic. e) The incumbent will initiate action for selections, promotions, status changes, awards, disciplinary actions and separations f) The incumbent will plan, schedule and coordinate workload and solve problems related to the completion of the workload. g) The incumbent will be responsible for clinic needs such as material, equipment and facilities need to complete work h) The incumbent will explain and gain the support of employees for developing, implementing, and managing policies and establishing goals in addition to working to achieve the objectives of government-wide personnel programs and policies. Clinical Responsibilities: - Provides evidence-based treatments including interventions and therapy as well as regular and frequent tailoring of the treatment environment to the individual mental health, physical health, and other recovery needs of Veterans. - Provides therapeutic interventions including individual therapy, family education, and case management. Offers group services and sustains marriage and family therapy group intervention through outreach and marketing of the service. - Provides assessment services in consultation with team licensed psychologists and offers appropriate psychotherapeutic assessment techniques. - Assessments include pertinent information in all the required areas of functioning in order to determine appropriate diagnoses and other treatment-related conclusions. Teaching and Training/Research: - Provides clinical supervision to LMFT staff and/or LMFT trainees, and may serve as the subject matter expert for the discipline. LMFTs develop behavioral health related training curriculum and often conduct trainings for clinical staff. LMFTs model ethical and professional behaviors and standards to include multicultural awareness. - Teaches didactic seminars for trainees including in the LMFT and Psychologist training programs - Conducts and evaluates ongoing program quality assurance and engages in research activities including presentations, articles, etc. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am to 430pm, may need to cover inpatient weekend on-call on rotation Telework: Only as needed Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Candidates must meet one of the following: (1) Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a program approved by COAMFTE, (2) Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a MFT program from a regionally accredited institution, OR, (3) Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in a comparable mental health degree (Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology, and Psychiatry) that meets the current VA qualification standard of that profession. License. Persons hired or reassigned to MFT positions in the GS-0182 series in VHA must hold a full, current, and unrestricted MFT license to independently practice marriage and family therapy in a State. Grade Determinations: GS-12: Education. Candidates must meet one of the following: (1) Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a program approved by COAMFTE, (2) Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a MFT program from a regionally accredited institution, OR, (3) Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in a comparable mental health degree (Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology, and Psychiatry) that meets the current VA qualification standard of that profession. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs in subparagraph (b) below: Demonstrated KSAs. In addition to meeting the KSAs for GS-12 grade level, the candidate must demonstrate all of the KSAs below: 1. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet multiple deadlines, delegate tasks and facilitate team building. 2. Ability to manage and direct the work of others to accomplish program goals and objectives. 3. Ability to devise innovative ways to adapt work operations to new and changing programs, to develop staffing and budget requirements, and to translate management goals and objectives into well- coordinated and controlled work operations and ensure compliance with pertinent VHA policies. 4. Ability to establish and monitor performance priorities according to standards and program evaluation criteria. 5. Knowledge of family systems theory/therapy in coordination of family programs. Assignments. MFT Program Coordinators are administratively responsible for a clinical program providing treatment to Veterans in a specialty area as defined by the National Mental Health Office. Examples include RCS/Vet Centers, Homeless Veterans program and Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM). They coordinate the daily operations of the program, develop policies and procedures for program operation and prepare reports and statistics for facility, VISN and national use. At this level, MFTs are licensed to independently provide mental health services and may supervise for licensure other MFTs. Preferred Experience: 3 years Mental Health experience, experience in leadership. Applicants with the following certifications from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN) are highly preferred: Basic Life Support (BLS). The selected employee will be required to receive certification prior to assuming clinical responsibilities and ensure current certification after employment is maintained.
