The position performs a wide variety of work that requires significant physical effort and knowledge of infection control and hazardous waste procedures to comply with both healthcare and housekeeping industry and safety requirements. The housekeeping lead will be expected to complete all the duties of a housekeeper and will be a substitute for the San-i-Pak and/or Motor Vehicle Operator in the absence of that position. The position is located at the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System.
Duties
As a Housekeeping Leader, the incumbent's duties include, but are not limited to the following:
The housekeeping leader will assume the duties and act as supervisor in the absence of the housekeeping supervisor.
Independently monitors and assigns workloads, sets priorities, addresses emergency situations and provides exceptional service to all internal and external customers. Works alongside the supervisor.
Checks assigned areas for any building deficiencies and potential safety hazards and enters work orders as necessary.
Assists the supervisor with area inspections.
Observes proper sanitation methods to ensure the quality and quantity of work performed meets established standards.
Observes proper use of equipment and supplies to ensure the safety of team members as well as all facility staff, visitors, patients and government property.
Recommends follow-up training to the supervisor for team embers as necessary.
Records attendance, relays information, provides training, monitors and distributes housekeeping supplies, tracks bed services, initiates station work orders and inventories EMS equipment.
Leads the work on all non-routine assigned duties or projects to include floor care (VCT, Noraflor and Carpet Extraction) and deep cleans during hospital moves.
Assists the supervisor in new-employee training and periodical reviews for compliance to cleaning standards/requirements.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
