This position is located at the Department of Veterans Affairs St. Cloud VA Health Care System (VAHCS) in the Facilities Management service line. Employee is responsible for the total care of all elevators at the St. Cloud VAHCS.

Duties

Major duties listed but not limited to: Possess qualifications to work at a journeyman electrician level throughout the medical facility Responsible for total care of all elevators at the St. Cloud VAHCS Performs scheduled preventive maintenance inspections as determined by VA directives Schedules and monitors all required inspection and testing that are done under contract Maintains all equipment records; stock parts for immediate repair, and keep a current file of all literature to maintain elevators Orders replacement parts and/or original equipment to maintain equipment in a safe operating condition Program in any adjustments to the elevator; such as, timing, door operations, spare input and outputs, fire service, leveling, and many other features Use test equipment; such as, hand held programmers, remote controls, multi-meters, tachometers, spring force gauges, wire gauges, and the trouble shooting/diagnostic program built into the elevators computer to determine circuit faults and malfunctions in the elevator Required to be knowledgeable in the NEC, National Electric Code, NFPA National Fire Protection Association, ANSI Al56.I0, and American National Standard for power operated pedestrian doors Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (work hours may be further discussed during the interview) Position Description Title/PD#: Elevator Mechanic - Electrician/PD904740 Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not approved Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized Bargaining Unit Position: Yes, AFGE The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT #1: Ability To Do The Work Of an Elevator Mechanic Without More Than Normal Supervision: Must have the ability to do the work of an Elevator Mechanic WG-5313-10 without more than normal supervision in performing the full range duties. Related experience includes: servicing of two types of elevators: hydraulic and traction; performing day-to-day inspections covering timing, lubricating, cleaning, adjusting, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying and testing to assure continuous safe service of elevators; assisting in the total installation and setup of new elevator units; repairing and adjusting automatic door operators and large pass through automatic revolving doors; ability to plan, layout, and complete the installation, modification, and repair of various systems, circuits, equipment, and controls found in the station electrical distribution system; reading and interpreting electrical/electronic schematics, plans, blueprints, specifications, shop manuals, and manufacturer's technical operating and servicing instructions; keeping records of contract work when new elevators are installed; and working with contractors during installation, re-shackling of new cables and any other contracted repair services. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT #2: Must possess or be able to obtain a valid U.S. state-issued driver's license by entrance on duty. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside and may be performed in inclement weather. Incumbent is required to be familiar with proper safety precautions when working in patient rooms or areas where infections or contagious diseases exist.
