This position is located in DHS/U.S. Coast Guard, Surface Forces Logistics Center, Industrial Operations Division, Naval Engineering Support Unit, Industrial Production Detachment Saint Louis, in St. Louis, MO.

Duties

This position is responsible for performing welding assignments that may include work on barges, boats, ships, small vessels, facilities and their associated equipment. Welding on various components of a ship can include the shell, broken or cracked engine parts, framing, inner bottoms, tanks, boilers, decks, bulkheads, superstructures, masts, stacks, ventilation ducts, railings, piping, and similar components. Welds are made in all positions including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (Screen-out Element) Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of measuring instructions Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (including blueprint reading) Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment Knowledge of Metals Dexterity and Safety National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
