This position is located in the Transportation Section of the Building Maintenance Unit at the Miami VA Healthcare System, and supports the mission to care for our Veterans with compassion and excellence. The Motor Vehicle Operator is charged with transporting patients, visitors, volunteers, administrative and medical staff who are in need of transportation to and from the main entrance of both the Miami VA and Broward County Outpatient Clinic.
Duties
The Motor Vehicle Operator is responsible for pick up and transport of patients under non-emergency conditions from a VA owned or leased designated parking area for the Miami VA Healthcare System and the Broward County Outpatient Clinic to the designated entrance of the facility. Additional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Operates a golf cart like vehicle weighing up to 10,000 lbs.
Exercises extreme care while driving to avoid accidents causing damage to property or life.
Reports accidents or incidents timely to the supervisor and all necessary parties.
Provides courteous and hospitable manners to all customers.
Assists in maintaining cleanliness, maintenance, and gas of vehicles in assigned fleet.
Independently arranges for routine maintenance of vehicles.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 PM

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Motor Vehicle Operators must be in good physical condition and have 20/20 vision with or without corrective eyewear. Medium to high physical effort such as walking, bending, sitting, and lifting to assist patients or staff into and out of the vehicles may be required. Motor Vehicle Operators mostly work outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of weather in a controlled traffic environment, and is exposed to dirt fumes and to the possibility of cuts, bruises and broken bones.
