This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Facilities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees
Duties
Have a working knowledge of the structure and operating characteristics of boilers and associated auxiliary equipment.
Operate a numerous pumps, valves, regulators, gauges, recording instruments, and controls.
Have basic operations knowledge of start-up, shutdown, and restart procedures and in casualty control.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Federal Wage System employees, WG/WL/WS etc, must satisfactorily complete the appropriate annual Depot Medical Examination.
- This position requires the incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license in order to operate a government motor vehicle (GOV).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Boiler Plant Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. have the ability to perform common operations skills necessary in start-up, shutdown, and restart procedures. I can recognize dangerous conditions in boilers, controls, valves, piping, and other equipment inherent to boiler operations to prevent equipment damage.

Physical Effort: Incumbent must exert light to medium physical effort in observing automatic equipment and in adjusting controls. Work requires continuous standing and walking. Frequently lifts weights up to 40 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work to be performed in dusty and hot boiler rooms. May work in cramped quarters. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of boiler bursts and steam blowback, of being overcome by toxic gases, smoke, ashes and coat dust, and burns from scalding water and contact with boilers. Work assignments Involve a thorough knowledge of hazardous material handling and related activities. Incumbent is required to successfully complete a variety of hazardous material classes. There Is a possibility of exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaks and incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.).
