THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This is a Temporary Indefinite vacancy for an appointment of 4years. In the event a permanent employee is accepted for this indefinite position, there will be a change in his/her tenure from permanent to indefinite. This National Guard position is for a TITLE 5 PEST CONTROLLER (MI 127 CES), Position Description Number 02124 and is part of the MI 127 Wing, National Guard.

Duties

***THIS IS A TITLE 5 NATIONAL GUARD EXPECTED POSITION*** The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as the installation's principal pest controller, providing pesticide, herbicide and animal control. May also provide assistance operating snow removal equipment and performing other tasks of Pavement and Grounds operations to meet mission requirements. 1. Responsible for planning, accomplishing and maintaining a complete facility pest control program affecting personnel at Selfridge ANGB Base. 2. Conducts or ensures troubleshooting inspections of facilities and grounds for pest infestation. 3. Independently uses Integrated Pest Management (IPM) procedures to control pests in and around offices, food service areas, storage areas, lawns, trees, and shrubs. 4. Independently works on controlling wild life on the base that interfere with aircraft operations such as Deer Management program, the BASH (Bird Air Strike Hazard) Program, and Canada Goose and other water fowl program. 5. Operates and maintains a variety of hand and power equipment/tools, and maintains a stock of materials needed. 6. Performs and oversees pest controlling duties in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures, and complying with established safety rules and regulations. 7. Assists in snow removal operations or other operations of Pavement and Grounds section to accomplish mission requirements. * The above duty description doesn't contain all details of the official position description.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Minimum Required Time: 18 Months Knowledge if physical characteristics, life cycle, and feeding habits of a wide variety of pests. Knowledge of advanced principles and procedures of IPM including chemical control techniques, precise surveys, and parasite predator usage. Knowledge of pesticide toxicity, chemical solutions, and baits. Knowledge of federal and state requirements dealing with the mixture, application, and disposal of restricted use pesticides. Knowledge of and ability to apply safety and environmental standards, regulations, and requirements. Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with GVQ of more than 26,000 and up to 32,000 pounds such as platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks/garbage trucks, or dump trucks. Also includes operation of buses capable of carrying over 16 passengers. Skill in operating and maintaining pest control tools and equipment and in selection equipment appropriate for accomplishing assignments. Skill in reading and applying directions that relate to the mixture, use and application of various kinds of general and restricted used pesticides. Ability to interpret plans and blueprints. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to apply shop procedures, policies, written and oral instructions, and directives to provide training to others. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc., related to motor vehicle operation, power take-off unit operation, and preventative maintenance.
