You will serve as a Staff Curator (Museum Management) of NAVAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE COMMAND.

Duties

Manage loans from the Navy Art Collection, both for traveling art exhibits and office displays. Plan and develop specific and special Navy Art Projects, including exhibits, both physical and virtual for the Naval History Heritage Command website. Control on a continuing basis the inventory of the entire Navy Art Collection. Perform research in order to advise and assist in the planning of exhibit programs, to accurately catalog artwork in the collection, and for replying to inquiries about the collection. Perform a variety of routine and special duties in connection with the administration of the Navy Art Branch and Combat Art Program.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Staff Curator (Museum Management) working with collections and/or exhibits. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Demonstrating a high degree of knowledge in 1) Managing loans for a Museum collection performing duties such as loan agreements, inventory, storage, shipping/handling. 2) Ensuring accountability of artwork under your purview; 3) Conducting independent research and/or extensive research on aspects of museum collections and planning of exhibits4) Communicating orally and in writing on subjects related to museum curation, management, or artwork; 5) Perform or supervise in the planning and development of special projects or exhibits. 6) Perform duties related to the inventory and conservation of items in a collection. Education

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess
  1. Degree: museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field. (History, art history, etc)

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

    or

  3. Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown in A above.
