About the Position: his position is located at Army Medical Center Darnall, Department of Surgery; Otorhinolaryngology Service. Serves as a Health Technician (OTOLARYNGOLOGY) and conducts routine diagnostic tests, administers prescribed medication or bandages and assists the Otorhinolaryngology's in the care and the treatment of ear, nose, and throat patients.

Duties
Assists physician with complex, as well as minor surgical procedures performed in clinical setting.
Sterilizes and sets up instruments for otolaryngology surgical procedures (general otolaryngology, and sub-specialty otolaryngology) using high level disinfection.
Incumbent follows proper sterile techniques, setting up and maintaining the sterile field, wearing of scrub attire and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
Removes sutures, staples, and packing from postoperative wound. Removes internal and external nasal splints.
Maintains established levels of bulk medical supplies that are not narcotic or antibiotic (e.g., cough syrup, decongestants), required surgical instruments and linens.
Orders supplies as needed. Assists in maintaining surgery schedule for the otolaryngologist, contacting patients, and requesting operating rooms.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assists in specialized treatments, surgical procedures, and/or tests by screening patients prior to seeing physician; assists during procedures by positioning patients, handing instruments to physician, cutting suture, and applying dressings; and performs pre-operative counseling for patients and families on scheduled surgical procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level (GS-05).
