The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Aircraft Work Inspector subject matter expert; to observe, determine, provide feedback/corrective actions, and document quality of in-process and after-the-fact aircraft work inspector maintenance, ensure prescribed technical and management procedures are followed and quality maintenance is achieved.

Duties

- Evaluates/inspects/documents performance, documentation, and observable maintenance processes to ensure compliance with technical, procedural, and safety directives - Serves as a primary technical advisor and program manager - Evaluate a variety of aircraft and equipment inspections, ground handling, servicing major aircraft systems, their assemblies and components - Administers unit aircraft weight and balance program. Provides training/instruction during scheduled sessions and to address deficiencies identified during evaluations and inspections on personnel, e.g., Active Duty, Reservist, Civilians, Contractors and foreign military - Administers unit Functional Check Flight (FCF) program for maintenance in coordination with Operations Group

  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

  • Performs other related duties and ground handling tasks as assigned
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • The duties of this position require the employee to operate a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800, Aircraft Overhaul Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an AIRCRAFT WORK INSPECTOR without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of quality assurance/control methods, principles, and practices, including statistical analysis and sampling techniques. 2. Knowledge of technical systems and applicable production maintenance repair methods and processes. 3. Knowledge of inspection, test, and measurement equipment and techniques. 4. Knowledge of the relationship of quality assurance to outside agencies. Ability to utilize Information Technology (IT) software/hardware securely. 5. Skill in interpreting and applying technical data, regulations, publications, and other guidance material. Skill in written/oral communications and establishing effective interpersonal relationships. 6. Skill in conducting studies and investigations, problem/trend analysis, and developing logical/documented recommendations. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Heavy lifting/carrying (45 pounds and over). Straight pulling, reaching above shoulder, bending, and climbing. Both hands/legs, and use of fingers required. Operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/50 and 20/100 in the other. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish shades of color. Hearing (aid permitted). WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in hangar areas, outdoors, in/on aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, humidity and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to bodily fluids, dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids (oil, hydraulic, fuel, sealants, solvents, hazardous fluids, particulates, and gases). Potentially exposed to Hydrazine, Halon, and/or composites, electrical shocks, RF radiation, explosive hazards and Low Observable (LO). Subject to eye damage due to exposure to LASERs. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. Slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast. Working closely with others or working alone. Work in office settings with possible extended periods of exposure to computer screens and repetitive motions on computer keyboards.
