You will serve as a LEAD POLICE OFFICER in the Force Protection division of theNAVSTA GREAT LAKES SEC DET.

Duties

You will conduct preliminary and non-criminal investigations in compliance with probable cause requirements. You will carry firearms or other weapons authorized for a specific jurisdiction You will conduct investigations through record checks, interviews, surveillance, or other methods to ascertain any criminal activity. You will identify course of action to be taken in emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Must successfully complete a DoD approved Police Training Academy or equivalent course, e.g. Navy Police Officer Academy; a federal or military police academy; or equivalent law enforcement training.
  • Employee must successfully pass an initial, annual, or any required OPM, DoD, or Department of the Navy mental and emotional stability screening, physical ability test, and physical fitness for duty test.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Providing law enforcement (LE), physical security (PS), antiterrorism (AT), and force protection (FP) and Reaction Force (RF) expertise/support; 2) Responding and investigating incidents and complaints; interpreting and enforcing state and federal laws, Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), DoD, Navy rules, regulations, and installation directives; 3) Carrying firearms or other authorized less than lethal force devices for a specific jurisdiction, requiring decisive action and decision making during a high-risk situation or response; and 4) Documenting law enforcement and security events and the issuance of citations.
