This position is located in the Engineering Service Projects Section at the Northern Indiana Health Care System, Marion Campus. The Engineering Technician reports directly to the Section's Supervisory General Engineer and works with a high level of independence.
Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to:
Utilizes AutoCAD Software to prepare preliminary working drawings for construction projects for both contracted and station-level type work;
Oversees multiple construction projects; both contracted and station-level, to include RFI review and submittal review as well as oversite to ensure work is meeting the initial plans and technical specifications developed for the project;
Oversees construction projects, design contracts, construction site inspections, construction reports, payments, facility coordination and preparation of construction projects to protect the Government's interests in the execution of contract work;
Prepares, reads, and interprets engineering and structural drawings and specification;
Conducts engineering reviews to determine the feasibility and requirements of proposed projects;
Performs field investigations and measurements to gain first-hand knowledge and to gather architectural and engineering data necessary to document conditions for design, construction, and engineering records;
Prepares plans, specifications, and estimates for complex projects, which include multi-disciplinary architectural, fire and safety, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, telecommunication;
Prepares preliminary and working drawings for construction projects for both contract and station-level type work;
Administers contracts for compliance, evaluates submissions, and processes payment applications and invoices within required time frames;
Inspects construction work and station project work to assure conformance with plans, specifications, and applicable codes; and
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm or 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-11 level, you must meet one of the following requirements:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-10) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of an Engineering Technician, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Qualifying specialized experience includes technical work in drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes; Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. Additional specialized experience includes: #1) project management experience overseeing design or construction projects; #2) AutoCAD experience in drafting/design; and #3) construction management/oversight experience.NOTE: Resume must clearly support the duties and experience required for this position. EDUCATION: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or 3 full years of higher-level graduate education with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology and drafting that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying 1 year of full-time study. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The work involves regular sitting, may require some physical exertion long periods of standing, walking, bending, climbing and crawling in or around the facility and construction sites, field inspections, or to observe and study work operations in an industrial, storage, or comparable work area. Work hours can vary from the norm depending upon the circumstances surrounding project performance, which can entail night, weekend, and/or extended work hours. Work may also include frequent lifting or moderately heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds (i.e., 23 kilograms) such as equipment and samples.
