This position is located in the Medical Center's (MC) Environmental Management Service (EMS) reporting to EMS Chief. Duties involve those of Housekeeping Aid, Materials Handler, Forklift Operator, Laborer, Maintenance Worker, and Motor Vehicle Operator. This position performs assignments that require significant manual skill, prior work experience, training, and heavy physical effort; operate large complex equipment that may require constant attention to working space and environment.

Duties

Operates various types of forklifts, including diesel powered forklifts, to load/unload equipment/furniture. Operates cleaning equipment and tools and adjust and performs minor maintenance on such equipment. Operates air compressor and attachments. Performs repetitive duty including receiving, storing, stacking/re-stacking and identifying equipment/furniture and may be required to assemble items. Assembles and disassembles modular workstation office furniture using hand and power tools Participates in conducting inventory of stock on hand and communicates discrepancies; Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Load and unload shipments from trucks and other material conveyances; Receives, stores and ships bin and bulk supplies, materials and equipment; Responsible for safe and proper operation of forklift or other mechanized equipment Makes pick-ups and deliveries throughout southeast Pennsylvania and the Tri-state area. Trucks that are driven carry four (4) to eight (8) tons of cargo. Trucks typically have a motorized lift gate. Performs other related duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Working Conditions: Work is done inside and outside. Work areas may be hot, cold, damp, drafty, dirty, dusty, noisy, poorly lighted. Occasionally is exposed to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc. Incumbent are responsible for safe and proper operation of forklift or other mechanized equipment to prevent cuts, bruises, or broken bones due to shifting loads. Physical Requirements: Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries weights up to 100 lbs. May handle heavier items with weightlifting equipment or use of forklifts, etc. Required to push heavy loaded carts such as laundry carts - 150 lbs. and recycled paper carts 250 lbs. in weight. Handles 55-gallon drums of chemicals and other liquids.
