About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Coordinates airspace restrictions with air traffic control personnel by providing the status of live fire ranges and firing points. Ensures training activities conducted on ranges adhere to regulations. Utilizes automated equipment and radios to track the status of units scheduled to use training areas to ensure the safety of all personnel in training areas. Informs personnel who are downrange of hazards such as weapons systems firing, tactics, and procedures being utilized by units conducting live fire training on ranges. Advises personnel conducting training on all matters pertaining to safety such as ammunition suspensions, weather warnings, visibility requirements and fire index.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid, state issued driver's license.
  • This position requires the incumbent to rotating work shift work on a ten-hour shift in a range control facility, which operates 24 hours/day 7 days/per week.
  • This position is an inclement weather essential position.
  • Overtime may be required to support high density training periods.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Government Driver's License.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
