About the Position: This position is with the Department of Preventive Medicine located at Tooele Utah. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Identify protective equipment controls to eliminate hazardous exposures. Develop solution to prevent occupational illnesses/injuries Determine appropriate Industrial Hygiene sampling strategies for assessing workplace hazards. Analyze statistical data from workplace Industrial Hygiene monitoring to evaluate occupational hazards. Advise activity management of unsafe/unhealthy working conditions based on industrial hygiene assessment findings. Conduct baseline and periodic industrial hygiene surveys to identify potential workplace hazards. Interpret laboratory analyses of chemical and biological workplace samples.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a Secret background investigation.
  • This position may require a one year probationary period.
  • Incumbent will need to have a valid and current drivers license.
  • A pre-employment physical is required.
  • Heavy lifting of up to 50lbs.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • This position is Weather Essential, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled, in the event of severe weather.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. OR A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. OR Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH). AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes: conducting industrial hygiene inspections of workplace environments to assess work practices and environmental conditions for hazards to the health and safety of workers, and to detect violations of published health standards; conducting literature searches related to a specific hazard; calibrating and using industrial hygiene measurement equipment such as personal sampling pumps, sound level meters, noise dosimeters, and other direct reading instruments to evaluate environmental stressors; and, providing professionally written industrial hygiene reports with recommendations to eliminate or reduce chemical and physical stressors within work environments.
