About the Position: This position is a Medical Support Assistant located in Family Practice Medical Home Port Team One, Family Medicine, Director Branch Clinic, who serves as the initial point of contact for patients and visitors.

Duties
Serves as the initial point of contact for patients presenting for appointments.
Performs a variety of administrative clerical support duties facilitating the work of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and hospital corpsmen.
These duties include record keeping, answering telephones, appointment booking, and patient check-in.
Schedules appointments for patients requiring a variety of examinations.
Reviews appropriate documents to obtain identifying information to determine eligibility for care.
Takes inventory and requisitions adequate stocks of unit supplies including paper, pens, and other administrative items.
Types departmental letters, memoranda, replies and requests, and other correspondence as requested by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/ or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. General Experience: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as performing any of the following, assisting customers, utilizing a computer, scheduling appointments and maintaining files electronically or hard copy.
OR
Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.
Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
