Position resides in the Laundry/Linen Distribution Section of Environmental Management Service at the Gainesville Division of the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Healthcare System (NF/SG VAHCS). Major functions include processing and distribution of linen/laundry services to and from the Lake City Textile Plant as well as coordination of textile delivery throughout several Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), Outpatient Clinics (OPCs) and other leased medical lease spaces.
Duties
Major Duties Include (but not limited to):
Assigns and directs workers and gives priority to tasks to be completed.
Trains employees on how to properly perform necessary task and operations on equipment, such as 800 lb. washer extractors, 400 lb. washer extractors, 400 steam dryers, 400 gas dryers, small piece folders, cross folders and stacker, flat ironer, cart-dump station, blanket folder, cart washer, different chemicals with setting cycles, overhead rail system, etc.
Enforces and teaches proper safe handling of soiled contaminated laundry/ linens.
Fills all linen requests for other Medical Centers, Out-patient Center and Community Based clinics.
Must know the operation of the micro computer systems on the washers, dryers, small piece folders/ flat work ironer and the chemical automatic supply systems.
Must have knowledge of certain routine machine maintenance and ability to and maintain an assortment of production needs and records.
Knowledge of loading capacity of washer extractors and gas/steam dryers, proper washing formulas and length of operating time for all types of lines.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: No special above-average physical demands, (ability, dexterity, or strength) are required to perform the work. Work is divided between sedentary sitting and walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting. Incumbent will need to drive an automobile to conduct fieldwork. Fieldwork may involve traveling to offsite locations for interviews, meetings, and sources of information.
