This position works as Supervisor over a Maintenance Unit in Engineering Service located on the campus of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Mountain Home, TN Health Care System. The Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor functions as a first line supervisor and oversees the work of journeyman level mechanics, technicians and craftsmen that function independently within their area of expertise in the repair of equipment and facilities at Mountain Home and in the Mountain Home catchment area.

Duties

Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor serves as the first responder to calls from facility administration for engineering assistance after normal working hours. Independently triages, troubleshoots, and repairs, or calls in additional resources. Duties include but not limited too: The incumbent supervises the operations within the Maintenance Unit. The incumbent provides general assignments to the work leader and the senior journeyman trade individuals within each of the work areas, who are then responsible for the accomplishment of the work with minimal oversight. The incumbent reviews work plans of journeyman staff for completeness and adherence to deadlines. The incumbent provides information to the Assistant Chief, Chief Engineer and other areas of medical center regarding maintenance activities. The incumbent prepares workload data such as PM data for Maintenance Unit to ensure compliance with Joint Commission requirements. The incumbent will plan the use of subordinate workers equipment, facilities, materials on a week-to­ week basis. The incumbent establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and plan work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors. Coordinate work with supporting or related work functions controlled by other supervisors. The incumbent determine the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects. The incumbent redirects individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work; The incumbent Inform higher level supervisors of the need to revise work schedules and re­estimates labor and other resources.
