Northern Arizona VA Care System (NAVAHCS) is currently recruiting a few Lead Medical Support Assistants for the Lake Havasu City CBOC, Health Administration Service.
The NAVAHCS strives to provide the highest quality primary, secondary and tertiary health care to its beneficiaries through a compassionate, innovative health care system, excellent training and education of health care professionals, and effective use of available resources.
Duties
The Lead Medical Support Assistant (MSA) position serves as the Lead Clerk for MSA staff in their assigned area(s). The Lead MSA is assigned either to the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT), Specialty/Surgery Clinic, Mental Health, or Call Center. The Lead MSA interfaced and collaborates with larger health care system providers including VA and non-VA Specialists, Hospitals, Diagnostic and Treating Facilities, and Community- Based programs. Major duties include, but are not limited:
Conducting on-going reviews to ensure qualify of work.
Ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments.
Providing Guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures.
Distributing and Balancing workload.
Creating and Maintaining employee work schedules.
Orienting and Providing On-The-Job Training for new and current employees.
Ensuring all training requirements are met.
Organizing the work structure
Acting as liaison between MSA and Staff to resolve day-to-day conflicts.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Will also travel to provide backup coverage when needed. If the MSA Float is not available, the MSA Lead will be the next person in line to provide coverage in their assigned area of operations.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Experience: Six (6) months experience of clerical, office, [customer service], or other [administrative] work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR,
Education: One (1) year above high school OR,
Experience/Education Combination: Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations:
GS-07 level: One year of experience equivalent to the [GS-06] grade level which includes:
Collaborating with medical clinicians across multiple disciplines, scheduling interdisciplinary appointments, and possessing an advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community
OR providing staff development and training, delegating responsibilities/assigning workload to other staff members, following up on issues, and reviewing and monitoring data to ensure reports are complete and accurate.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs). In addition, you must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs in your resume:
Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources.
Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting.
Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines.
Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff.
Ability to provide staff development and training.
Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics.
Preferred Experience:
Competent with computers and technical systems, autonomous daily work, critical thinking skills, proficient in medical terminology
