Duties

Planning, establishing, and maintaining cooperative relationships across public and private organizations and associations. Experience with the collection and oversight of collecting financial data needed to prepare and implement budgets, assistance agreements, purchases, and maintain records related to grants and endowments. Identifying, drafting, applying for, and securing grants or related funding to develop interpretive materials (including but not limited to exhibits, brochures, rack cards, presentations, displays) in support of outreach initiatives and activities. Manage of visitor use facilities related to public interpretation and outreach, exhibit management and maintenance. Planning, conducting, and evaluating visitor satisfaction surveys and maintaining visitor use statistics to aid in developing and implementing long- range and annual work planning efforts. Monitor facilities and resources for indications of deterioration, over-use, or abuse and provide solutions to address or remediate identified issues. Provide short-term or delegated supervisory oversight (including but not limited to general leadership, coaching, and collaboration with team members). Develop staffing schedules and assist team members to align priorities effectively.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. At the GS-11 Level: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) in the federal service. Specialized experience is further defined as providing leadership, direction, and coaching in support of organizational goals; collaborates with team members setting priorities and work schedules; assists in developing and coordinating public engagement strategies; implement community outreach programs, and monitors and evaluates resource management effectiveness; develops and administers grant applications, agreements, and contracts.; OR three full years of graduate of higher-level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in education related to occupation. Major study- natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources; OR a combination of identified specialized experience and graduate education described above. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The incumbent's job is a combination of office and field work. Work involves meetings or events of various kinds and in a wide variety of locations. Office work involves working at a desk, computer, and phone. Meetings and events may involve sitting or standing for long periods of time. Job entails driving long distances and occasionally involves walking distances over rough terrain in varying climates; and operation of trucks and 4x4 vehicles. The position involves occasional lifting of equipment and supplies weight up to 40 lbs. The incumbent may be required to assist with snow removal and maintenance which includes climbing on a roof or a catwalk. Work Environment: The majority of the work is performed in an office setting. Other work locations include outdoor settings and offices of other agencies and groups. Field work may involve long hours and occasionally exposure to extreme weather conditions or periods of heat and cold. Temperatures can range from more than 100 degrees F or less than 30 degrees F., periods of heavy winter storms of snow/ice and/or severe winds are not uncommon. Travel may require long hours of driving on winding highways and/or in heavy urban freeway traffic. During field work, there is exposure to poisonous plants, insects, reptiles, and smoke associated with wildfires that drifts in during times of heavy fire activity in the surrounding areas. The incumbent is subject to continued safety training and is required to follow established safety and environmental health procedures and practices.

Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR): Experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Park guide or tour leader.
  • Law enforcement or investigative work.
  • Archeological or historical preservation research work.
  • Forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area.
  • Management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations.
OR

Graduate Education: Major study -- natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled.This position allows for education to be substituted for specialized experience (see qualification section for education requirements). If using education to qualify - You MUST submit a copy of ALL your college transcripts or a list of ALL college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university. Upon selection, official transcripts must be received prior to appointment. If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
