About the Position: Serves as the Training Manager within the Department of Operational Medicine (DoOM), supporting and advising on all teaching Programs from the Department HQ, located at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Duties
Conducting detailed analyses of complex functions including doctrinal and training programs. Using knowledge and skill in the Physician Assistant field evaluates program operational effectiveness, policies, and regulatory compliance.
Provides clinical currency and relevant combat casualty care expertise using formal education and training as a Physician Assistant in developing, implementing new and revised policies, procedures, methods, and techniques.
Provides civilian human resources expertise to Department supervisors of civilian personnel and supervises several civilians within the Department who support academic functions.
Identifies developmental and training needs of employees and provides or arranges for needed development or training; and finds ways to improve production or increase the quality of work produced.
Participates in conferences, meetings, or presentations involving manpower and equipment problems or other issues of considerable importance as directed by the branch chief.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.

Basic Requirement for Training Manager (Combat Trauma):
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing clinical currency and relevant combat casualty care expertise. Planning and directing the administrative and technical work of a teaching element in a large training center and providing oversight and guidance to all Department of Operational Medicine (DoOM) personnel with respect to the TRADOC Academic Curriculum Design Process and participate in all Quality Assurance Office academic activities involving the DoOM. Experience with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee as an investigator for animal use protocols that support trauma training. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
