This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located in the US Army District, Operations Division, Physical Support Branch, Plant Section, Yards and Docks Unit, Memphis, TN. Serves as a Dry Dock Operator responsible for three floating dry docks and approximately one mile of docking facilities.
Duties
Perform duties such as docking vessels and placing vessels on dry docks, maintain docking facilities, and maintain records of all docking facilities.
Incumbent also operates crane to claim, segregate and move equipment.
Synchronize the filling or emptying of the docks as the vessel is raised or lowered.
Works out docking problems such as alignment of vessel between guides and makes corrections to prevent collision of vessel with dry dock.
Requirements

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Dry Dock Operator without more than normal supervision which includes fastening lines to anchor plant, docking boats and synchronizing the filling or emptying of the dry docks as vessels are raised or lowered. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent may be required to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds in lifting hooks and cables, attaching equipment, changing rigging, etc. Strenuous physical effort is required in constantly reaching, bending, and turning to pull lines, cables, ropes, and mooring equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside during all weather conditions. Work involves standing, walking, stooping, climbing and crawling. Work may be performed in an awkward or cramped position. Exposed to unpleasant noise, heat, cold, and fumes produced by engines.
