Qualifications
In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-14 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-13 level defined as experience providing leadership for a diverse group of environmental professionals focused on site characterization, field sampling, and data analysis to identify hazards and contaminants, and providing technical and/or regulatory advice to managers on complex and/or politically sensitive environmental problems.
Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of toxicology or risk assessment (human health or ecological), site characterization and field sampling to identify hazards and contaminants.
2. Knowledge of guidance related to the implementation of the rules and regulations under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Clean Water Act (CWA), National Environment Policy Act (NEPA) and/or Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA).
3. Ability to lead staff by evaluating work performance and giving advice, counsel, and instruction.
4. Skill in oral communication.
5. Skill in written communication.
6. Ability to advise on technical issues pertaining to toxicology or risk assessment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education
You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.
0401 - Life Scientist
You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as listed.
0415 - Toxicologist
You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.
