This position is located within a National Forest. The primary purpose of this position is responsible for performing office automation duties, word processing, and other support.
Duties
Uses word processing software and related hardware equipment to produce a variety of correspondence, reports, and office forms.
Produces other written material in final form, including technical material, tabular material, and other non-routine typing from rough draft or voice recordings.
Integrates different software types and resolves automation support problems to improve program efficiency and effectiveness. Uses graphics software to provide graphs and charts for viewgraphs.
Receives data from multiple sources in multiple forms, including E-MAIL, reviews the data, and processes it to meet a variety of administrative needs.
The processing of data includes validation for correctness and entry into existing or development of new data bases using the appropriate software system. Incorrect data must be researched and corrected or eliminated.
Recognizes the need for and constructs and maintains databases containing a variety of data and using multiple software systems. Edits and reformats electronic drafts prepared by staff.
Presents data in the required format or develops a format based on knowledge of the system, objectives, and available data.
The data must be capable of being retrieved, revised, sorted, and formatted to produce documents and reports required to meet organizational goals.
Identifies and corrects extraneous, erroneous, or missing functions as symbolized or illustrated by codes which can be revealed on the screen.
Edits material for grammar, capitalization, spelling, punctuation, style, arrangement, and conformance to procedural requirements.
Analyzes office functions to determine what aspects of the work can be automated, feasibility, and effectiveness in improving operations.
Provides general clerical support to the office staff. Prepares travel advances for approval and schedules travel accommodations. Computes travel vouchers and submits documents for signature, approval and payment.
Reviews personal property documents involving acquisitions, transfer or disposal of items that are required to be of record. Performs timekeeping duties as required. Determines supplies needed for the office staff.
Prepares the necessary requisition/procurement requests, and receives and distributes supplies and special order items.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.

Qualifications

GS-05: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level; OR a bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school; OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
Examples of specialized experience include: Performing general clerical support such as greeting visitors, maintaining files, and typing letters; assisting in the analysis of incoming routine and controlled correspondence, including mail, faxes, and documents; reviewing sections of agency or organizational directives and routine procedures to perform routine tasks such as correspondence work, filing processing mail, and assisting with travel, property management and procurement of office supplies.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
