This position is a Park Ranger specializing as a Visitor Services Specialist, GS- 0025-7/9 working in Las Vegas, New Mexico for the R2-Northern New Mexico Refuges Complex.

Duties

As a Park Ranger specializing as a Visitor Services Specialist, your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Participates in the development, management, and implementation of a high quality and balanced visitor services (VS) program by recommending and implementing compatible wildlife- dependent recreation activities. Leads the development and implementation of most complex refuge specific products, special events, facilities, and cross-program training. Develops and implements interpretive and environmental education programs. Programs reach a wide range of audiences and employ a variety of media methods and materials such as brochures, fact sheets, signs and panels. Provides relevant materials to local educational institutions for their use in environmental education programs that further the mission and goals of the Fish and Wildlife Service and the refuge. Updates and enhances individual refuge websites using the NWRS Content Management System. Organizes and maintains information dissemination sites for Refuge or Complex Visitor Services Recommends the type, amount, and location of work to be accomplished for each activity; estimates the cost of each activity based on staffing, equipment, supplies, and material requirements; and drafts the annual VS budget and operating program. Provides support for refuges to prepare routine, short-term plans, addressing issues such as building opening and closing times, staffing, cleaning schedules, and routine maintenance. Participates in partnerships that are beneficial to the FWS and its mission with corporate, conservation, and other non- government organizations. Promotion Potential: This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed represent the full performance level of GS-GS-9. At lower grade levels, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-GS-9.

Specialized experience includes: 1) Providing routine administrative support to facility managers and staff for planning, budgeting, staffing, contracting, facilities maintenance, and reporting; 2) Providing guidance and information to staff, partners, and the public pertaining to natural resources, public use laws, regulations, policies, standards, and procedures; 3) Developing and delivering interpretive and environmental education programs or products pertaining to refuge habitat and wildlife; 4) Training staff and volunteers in a natural resources setting to deliver and interpret educational programs and exhibits related to visitor services programs; 5) Developing and managing partnerships with community organizations and corporations; 6) Developing media for presentations, brochures, signs, fact sheets, guidebooks, websites, and social media; and 7) Developing and administering recreation activities such as hunting, camping, wildlife viewing, and hiking. OR Possess two full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the occupation. PROOF OF EDUCATION: All applicants who are using education or a combination of education and experience to qualify must submit copies of official or unofficial transcripts which include grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, institution name, and student name. If any required coursework is not easily recognizable on transcripts, or if you believe a portion of a particular course can be credited toward meeting an educational requirement, you must also provide a memorandum on letterhead from the institution's registrar, dean, or other appropriate official stating the percentage of the course that should be considered to meet the requirement and the equivalent number of units. GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
